I think this world has too much of “getting what you want.” Our world, well in America, we can order whatever we want and have it delivered within the hour to our doorstep. I used to think that microwaved food was the downfall of our children. They could not even wait for a pot pie to be baked in the oven, they had to make them microwavable.
Now what? What can we do to make our lives more convenient? We get deliveries, telehealth dr visits, we stream movies we want to watch instead of waiting for it to come out in the theaters, we binge watch entire TV series’, and we even have meals ready to cook so we don’t have to figure out how to cook.
I do not believe we are meant for convenience. I believe we are meant to know where our food comes from and how it got there but furthermore, I believe we are meant to know how to get it there. We are so bent on convenience that we have children that have no idea that the boiled egg they opened out a package originally came out of the back side of a chicken AND had a shell on it, let alone that it was boiled and then shelled. We buy pre peeled oranges, sliced apples, boiled eggs, sliced bread…the list is endless. Then we are shocked when our children do not know where food comes from.
Maybe we need to be inconvenienced with our food. Peel an orange for your granddaughter and visit with her about her day. Bake that pot pie and talk to your spouse about your first date. Bake some bread with your daughter and have tea with her while it rises. Slow down. Enjoy real life, don’t be inconvenienced by it. Pretty soon you will see that you will be getting what you want.
